Nutritionist says the path to weight loss is on Wall Street.
Who isn't looking to lose a pound or two (or, er, twenty-two)? So when new Mom and nutritionist Heather Bauer, author of The Wall Street Diet, shared her tips she cultivated while counseling Wall Street execs, we were listening. She shares her top three diet tips with Dietplanning--after all, Moms are as busy as any Wall Street trader, right? (Not paid as much, unfortunately, but that's a different story) We asked Heather to give Moms her three best diet tips...all guaranteed to raise your interest. (Okay, lame Wall Street joke--couldn't resist)
Start right now. A lot of busy Moms write this off because their priority is family and kids and they forget to take care of themselves. The busier you are, the better it is to start now because that's the reality of life. There's never going to be a more calm moment, so you have to just get started.
Decide what you can and can't give up. In my book, I call this your "non-negotiables." If you know you can't give up sorbet, ice cream, or cream in your coffee, and you must have it every night or it's going to make you crazy, then allow yourself to have it. Just know you have to work on everything else throughout the day to make up for the splurge.
Start recording. You can do this in your iPhone or Blackberry. I have a downloadable food sheet on my website, www.wallstreetdiet.com. A lot of people think they are worse off than they are, and by the third day you can see a trend. You can probably find "good" things that you're doing and also recognize the bad. Some might say, "My breakfast and lunch are great, but I start falling apart when I pick the kids up from school at 3 p.m." Then, at least they know they need to work on their afternoon snacks and night-eating, and that those are their challenges.
