Foods with low carbs and Healthy Meals
The South Beach diet is good for people who are looking to restrict carbs but still enjoy fruits and vegetables. It is not as healthy as the Sonoma diet, but with its variety of frozen entrees, it's well suited towards the hectic lifestyle.
Like so many other weight loss plans, there are three phases of this diet--the first, most-restrictive, short-term one to rapidly lose weight, the second one to get you to your ideal weight, and the third one to help you maintain your weight for life.
Phase One
Phase one lasts for two weeks. During this period you eat meals of lean meats, low-glycemic-index vegetables, eggs, nuts, and low-fat cheese. Pastas, cereals, breads, fruit, and starchy vegetables such as potatoes or carrots are not allowed during the first phase.
Phase Two
Many of the foods that aren't allowed during the first phase are slowly introduced during the second phase. Fruits such as strawberries, apples, and blueberries are recommended. Whole wheat grains and brown or wild rice are also added in during phase two, but should be used sparingly for maximum weight loss. If you are a chocolate lover, you'll be happy to know that chocolate is allowed during phase two. It should be bittersweet or semisweet and only used sparingly. Continue to avoid or rarely eat refined grains.
Phase Three
By the time you get to phase three, your target weight, this lifestyle of eating will seem enjoyable and natural. This is the least restrictive of the three phases, but it still focuses on good carbs and good fats. Good carbs are high in fiber and low in the glycemic index. Your body takes its time to digest these carbs and they are not turned rapidly into sugars. Good fats include olive oil and are polyunsaturated or monounsaturated. The bad fats that you are avoiding are saturated and trans fats.
With the South Beach Diet, you are eating three meals with snacks between each meal. The South Beach Diet is great for the busy person who doesn't have much time to cook. There are a wide variety of frozen entrees available that fit with the South Beach Diet plan. Of course, preparing your own food can be the most rewarding, and you'll be able to plan your favorite meals.
