Cabbage Soup Diet

The cabbage soup diet is one of the most popular and radical diets. Is cabbage soup one of the best diet foods? Can you really lose ten pounds of weight in a week (as is often claimed) simply by eating cabbage everyday for seven days?

Quick weight loss plan

The Cabbage Soup Diet is certainly a fad, but it's not meant as a long term weight loss solution. The good news is that you can lose weight with the cabbage soup diet, and quickly. If you are desperate to fit into a certain dress for a special occasion, you might want to give the cabbage soup diet a try.

Unfortunately, the weight you are losing is water weight. That means that as soon as you stop the Cabbage Soup Diet, the weight will come back. It's not the healthiest diet, though its short term means that it won't cause serious heart problems in a healthy person. Seasoned correctly, the soup can be quite tasty, but not something you would want to eat everyday.

The recipe for the cabbage soup is fairly simple. It can be bland, but avoid adding too much salt to the soup in an attempt to give it more flavor. Instead, experiment with different herbs and spices.

The Cabbage Soup Recipe

1 head cabbage

6 onions

2 peppers

6 carrots

1 can diced tomatoes

1 bunch celery

1 pack onion soup mix (optional

herbs, to taste

Chop the vegetables and place them in a large pot. Cover with water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until the vegetables are soft, adding the seasonings towards the end.

In addition to the soup, there are instructions on what other foods you can eat each day for the seven day diet. The soup is unlimited each day. Drink a large quantity of water throughout the seven day diet.

Day one: All fruits other than bananas are allowed. You can also drink tea, coffee, and cranberry juice, as long as they are unsweetened.

Day 2: Other than beans, corn, and peas, you can eat raw or cooked vegetables. A baked potato with a small amount of butter should be eaten at dinner.

Day 3: No baked potato, but fruits and vegetables

Day 4: Bananas and skim milk

Day 5: Up to six tomatoes and 10 to 20 ounces of beef.

Day 6: No baked potato, but other veggies and beef.

Day 7: Brown rice, fruit juice (unsweetened), and veggies.

If you do decide to try out the Cabbage Soup Diet, take a multivitamin supplement during the week. Be sure to get plenty of rest during this time. Light headedness is a common side effect of the Cabbage Soup Diet. Because of the limited calories, it's important to not exert yourself.
